Introducing the Linden SDA 2017 news team, better known as the B.S.M.A.R.T Action News Crew.
The News Crew is comprised of students from the sixth grade class. The students fulfill all the major components of a news team ranging from news anchor to director. As a class, the team will research, gather and write all the news stories. “I am excited and proud to be apart of the BESMART News Crew. As Light and Camera Operator, I will make sure the lights are good and take good footage of the anchor people” stated Maya Mitchell.
The students coined the team name after their school. B.S.M.A.R.T is an acronym for Bible, Science, Social Studies, Math, Arts (Music, Choir, Gym and Drama), Reading Comprehension, and Technology, encourages the students to be smart on a daily basis. The News Crew intends to be smart about their beloved community by reporting on the happenings of Southeast Queens. “It is very important that we report about our community so that other communities can learn about our wonderful neighborhoods” said Jewel Joseph, News Anchor.
The BESMART News Crew consist of Jewel Joseph (News Anchor), Madison Grant (News Anchor), Akeelah Smikle (News Anchor) Maya Mitchel (Lights and Camera Operator)Bryson Blair (Camera Operator), Kyle White (Sound Director), Naomi Jack (Lights), Ashley-Ann Francis (Director) and Javan Charles (Assistant Director). All of the students are participants in the STEAM for Social Change Program, a project of DIVAS for Social Justice.
