Growing up in Laurelton

My name is Damani Bobb,  I am a Group Leader at the STEAM  for Social Change Program at the  Linden SDA School. I have been living in Laurelton for 17 years now and it’s an amazing community. Growing up wasn’t bad at all. There were great people surrounding me in my neighborhood, showing all love and care. Everyone in the neighborhood would greet you, make you feel welcomed, and they would invite you to parties on the block, They would help you when needed it.

I attended  P.S 156 Elementary to Middle School. That school was a very integrated school with people from all over. There were some bad kids and some good. There your everyday Bullies, but that didn’t phase me. I stood up for myself and didn’t tolerate Bullying. In the 8th grade, I attended the STEAM for Social Change program, which was a great program. It taught me Communications, Photography, 3-D Printing, and Robotics. I still use these skills to this day. I appreciate everything that was given to me in the program.

One of my greatest and fondest moments in Laurelton was my home away from home, the basketball court at Saint Clair Park. I’ve been there everyday during every summer practicing and getting better at what I love, I made plenty of friends along the way. I feel as if growing up here made me the person I am today: humble, determined, focused, helpful, caring, loving, and dependable. Anyone could grow up here, if you’re up for the challenge.
