One of the best ways for a young man to develop his mind and his character is to have meaningful discussions with other young men who are trying to develop their minds and their character. Our sons need plenty of these opportunities.
That’s why in the coming weeks Farmers Boulevard Community Development Corp. will host a Young Men’s Harkness Table series @ Seed Capital Cafe, 114-53 Farmers Boulevard. SIGN-UP today.
A harkness table is an approach to learning based on peer-to-peer group discussions while seated around a table like an executive board. The discussions are engaging, intellectual, and challenging at times, allowing young minds to stretch their thinking and encourage each other.
Our series is for young men ages 12 to 14 (going into the 7th, 8th or 9th grades). We intend to have them gather for discussions on 3 consecutive Monday evenings (Aug 5, Aug 12 and Aug 19 — dates might change based on group consensus). The discussions will be facilitated by respected adults from our community.
We are inviting families in the community who have young men in this age range to consider registering their young men, if you think they are ready to engage in thoughtful discussions about substantive topics. (Topic options are listed on the sign-up form).
If interested, please complete the SIGN-UP FORM, and let us know if you have any questions.
Please share with your neighbors and tell them our sons need these opportunities.
