Moms Who Care Inc. hosted a community baby shower on July 31, 2021 at The Garden Of Resilience. The organization lovingly provided donations to expectant parents through community partnerships. Donations were made available that included: diapers, clothing, playpens and strollers and more. In addition, The Garden Of Resilience and Queens Botanical Gardens provided fresh vegetables and compost to give away to community residents.

The day represented prioritizing pregnant women of color in providing healthy practices through community workshops led in  the gazebo of the garden. Facilitated workshops included: Infant CPR, Doula/Lactation, Child Literacy and more.

Moms Who Care has developed a platform that directly provides solutions to the inequities that women of color face in the reproductive justice movement.

According to the CDC:

Reducing disparities in pregnant women of color will require the participation of multiple systems to address the factors affecting these disparities.

Hospitals and healthcare systems can:

  • Implement standardized protocols in quality improvement initiatives, especially among facilities that serve disproportionately affected communities.
  • Identify and address implicit bias in healthcare that would likely improve patient-provider interactions, health communication, and health outcomes.

It takes a village to raise a child and the community partners provided self care options and a variety of donations with love:
