On June 10, 2017 DIVAS for Social Justice hosted a community exhibit with the support of the Laurelton Library. The event featured the STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts Math ) artistic products of youth who participate in the organization’s programming at the following schools: P.S 156, P.S 132 and The Linden SDA School.
Each school in Laurelton has a dedicated news team that has contributed to Laurelton.nyc. The shared multimedia stories were showcased at the event and community members were able to walk the “community carpet” and be photographed in front of the Laurelton.nyc banner. The P.S 132 News Team had a great showing at the event with four of it’s citizen reporters supporting the event: Emelie Dexter, Leyandra Morgan, Jasmine White and Xenia Rivera.
The event was also supported with the presence of The Federated Blocks of Laurelton and The Friends of Laurelton Library. That same afternoon the Laurelton Library hosted a Native American concert and it was wonderful to bridge both programs in one day.
DIVAS for Social Justice looks forward to working with The Laurelton Library on future programming towards making Laurelton a more beautiful and just community.
