We are so proud to announce our website, Laurelton.nyc is a finalist in the DotNYC competition Best of the Boroughs Contest. Thank you to everyone that voted for our site during the voting period. Your support helped ensure our site made it to the finals. According to the Best of .NYC website:

NYC Best of the Boroughs celebrates the local businesses, organizations and community individuals that make our city, and each borough, a unique place to live.

Laurelton.nyc as moved on to the next round and will be judged on the following criteria:

Over the next 2 weeks our judging panel made up of Borough and City Representatives will review the list of finalist submissions and score each entry based on the 4 judging pillars below:

  • Public appeal votes received

o   Judging criteria is based on general public appeal, which will take into account the number of votes for each business received during the open public voting period.

  • The story behind a submission

o   History and story of the individual business or entity as it relates to the greater good of the New York City community.

  • Value to the local community

o   How does your business or entity contribute to the borough in which your reside.

  • Overall experience of the .nyc website

o   Quality of the .nyc website to include but not be limited to, visual aesthetics, content, functionality, structure and navigation.

Clarisa James
Clarisa James is the Co-Founder/Executive Director of DIVAS (Digital Interactive Visual Arts Sciences) for Social Justice. For the past seven years DIVAS has provided free or sliding scale technology training to youth in underserved communities in Central Brooklyn and Southeast Queens. Ms. James has been dedicated to youth development work for the past 15years in the roles of Teaching Artist, After School Director, Curriculum Specialist and artist. Her life's work encompasses empowering youth in underserved communities to use technology for social change and think critically about the issues that are affecting them most. For the past seven years Ms. James has facilitated workshops that help youth develop multimedia projects around environmental justice, housing, leadership development and reproductive justice. Ms. James holds an MFA in Integrated Media Arts from Hunter College's Film & Media Department. In addition to DIVAS for Social Justice, Ms. James currently serves on the advisory board of the Children’s Cabinet, Office of the Deputy Mayor Strategic Policy Initiatives at City Hall. Clarisa James is full of gratitude to her parents for providing such a wonderful upbringing and having the foresight to move into the community of Laurelton in the early 1970's. Clarisa is proud to be a daughter of Laurelton.
