Executive Director, Clarisa James discuss with Linden SDA the purpose of the community garden.

For Operation Clean-Up, Linden SDA students visited DIVAS for Social Justice mural site on 225th Street. Our mission was to clean the weeds and remove the trash. We cleaned up the weeds so that the soil would be fertile when we plant our daffodils.

Operation clean-up inspired community members to keep their neighborhood clean. Our mission to clean the site benefited individuals who live in that neighborhood and commuters who use the LIRR. The long term goal is to beautify Laurelton.

If we failed to clean the weeds the soil wouldn’t be fertile to plant daffodils and the site would continue to attract litter. Thanks to STEAM students at the Linden SDA, the air is fresh and we no longer have to smell a bunch of weeds.

I hope this operation made everyone aware of the importance of cleaning up. Operation clean-up doesn’t just have to be with a school, it can be anyone. So go ahead and clean-up.

This is Kyle Johnson signing off.
