Andrea Smith

Andrea Smith, SEQ Wellness Ambassador

I feel very privileged to be able to check in with our most valuable resources, the true gems in our communities as well as our society. As a millennial with easy access to the internet and the countless apps on my phone, I could not imagine the possibility that some of our seniors may become lonely, or perhaps not be able to access the resources that they need. I am a proud New Yorker and I am happy to be

of service in my community! But, I have to admit, it makes my day brighter hearing those amazing voices greet me over the phone. I suspect talking with these amazing people does a lot for me during these trying times, I hope hearing from me does the same for them.

Volunteering as a Wellness Ambassador is the highlight of my Wednesday. I look forward to calling my seniors. I am glad to lend my ear to the seniors. Most of them have a family member in their home but I can tell by their excitement when I call that they are glad to speak to someone outside of the home. We converse for a few minutes. I check on them and they check on me and then I tell them I will be calling again next Wednesday. This way they have something to look forward to. I have been adopted by a few families (jokingly). I am very glad to do my part in checking on the well being of the seniors in our community.

Zoe E. Hart, SEQ Wellness Ambassador
At a time where we can feel sad and powerless, it is a great feeling to be there for someone else.  I’m enjoying the phone calls, particularly when the Seniors decide to chat with me. When they share a little bit about their day, their loved ones or their lives, it really makes me feel connected to them.  They seem to appreciate having someone check in on them. I assumed I may make these seniors smile from time to time, but they make me smile just as often.  Thank you for the opportunity to serve in this way.
Onika and Gabrielle Dominique, SEQ Wellness Ambassadors
My daughter, Gabrielle and I love being Wellness Ambassadors. Prior to become ambassadors, we spent a lot of our time strengthening our relationship with God through prayer and devotion. We have found peace and tranquility through our time spent with God and being Wellness Ambassadors helps us exert that peace and tranquility to the elderly. Each Wednesday we contact 8 senior citizens between 11am to 3pm. I am the vocal aspect of our duo while my daughter specializes in dealing with the tech aspect. While I contact the elderly during this specific time frame, my daughter would fill out the google form surveys to inform the rest of the wellness ambassadors on how the senior citizens are doing. It gives us both a sense of joy that we are able to form friendships with the elderly we’re in contact with. During this time especially, it’s hard to know when’s the next time we’ll see our loved ones face to face but through this program we’re able to reassure the elderly that everything will be okay. With the help of God we’re able to achieve our goal of being great Wellness Ambassadors in everything that we do.
