DIVAS for Social Justice will expand its programming in 2021 with support from Verizon. Verizon has committed $43 million dollars to help bridge the digital divide for students across New York City through: hotspot donation for students, Verizon Innovative Learning school programming opportunities, and funding for nonprofit grants to support STEM education.
DIVAS for Social Justice is one of eight nonprofits that Verizon has awarded funding to benefit under-resourced K-8 students across NYC’s five boroughs. The grants will enable over 15,000 students to access online resources including 3D-design and virtual reality tools, mentorship opportunities, programming on digital literacy, game design coding, social justice activities and much more. Additional organizations receiving programmatic grants from Verizon include: Bronxworks, CAMBA, Grand Street Settlement, Hypothekids, NY Public Library, Phipps and STEM Kids NYC.
DIVAS for Social Justice will provide programming in the NYCHA Housing Developments in South Jamaica, the Bronx and Staten Island. The organization is also set to redesign a NYCHA community center into a social justice makerspace and provide interactive workshops that empower participants to use technology to elevate the issues faced by their communities or provide a real life solution.
