York College has launched a COVID-19 vaccine hub on February 20, 20221 to provide community residents of Southeast Queens access to vaccination . In recent studies, it has been indicated that a low number of residents from Southeast Queens have obtained the vaccine. For one week, community residents in the following zip codes will be able to schedule appointments despite what group they fall in for the vaccine rollout:The appointment scheduling will be open to only Southeast Queens and Far Rockaway residents of the ZIP codes 11411, 11412, 11413, 11418, 11419, 11420, 11422, 11423, 11427, 11428, 11429, 11432, 11433, 11434, 11435, 11436, 11691, 11692 and 11693.In order to apply, residents can go online at:

The hesitancy from communities of color to be vaccinated has been addressed in many forums over the the past 4 months. Recently, District 31 City Council Candidate, Selvena-Brooks-Powers hosted a community conversation including local doctors of diverse backgrounds on the importance of being vaccinated.The forum was made available via Zoom and streamed through Facebook Live.
Prior, one of the various community conversations that have been streamed by local officials, Howard University hosted a medical forum with Dr. Fauci to address the concerns of Black & Brown communities in regards to COVID-19. In the converation, Dr. Fauci pointed out that the lead scientist in the creation of the vaccine is a Black woman by the name of Dr. Kizzemekia S. Corbett.
In conclusion, The COVID-19 Rapid Response Team at the Whitehouse provided an update to the public informing citizens there is a decline in the number of COVID-19 cases but a delay in the distribution of vaccine due to the inclement weather around the country. In addition the response team introduced V-Safe, a after vaccination health checker. According to the CDC: V-safe is a smartphone-based tool that uses text messaging and web surveys to provide personalized health check-ins after you receive a COVID-19 vaccine. Through v-safe, you can quickly tell CDC if you have any side effects after getting the COVID-19 vaccine. Depending on your answers, someone from CDC may call to check on you and get more information. V-safe will also remind you to get your second COVID-19 vaccine dose if you need one.
