Fear, death, and economic distress characterize the year 2020, but through all of it we have been able to adapt and be resilient. As our lives slowly start to feel “normal” again, we know that we’ll never be able to forget the emotional strife our nation went through during 2020.
Two community leaders from queens, Diana Rose and Ernest Flowers II, decided to dedicate a garden to those we lost and the heroines who assisted during a tragic pandemic. A Victory Garden was unveiled October 8th at Roy Wilkins Park thanks to contributions from Senator Leroy Comrie, Home Depot, Earnest Foods, and Divas for Social Justice.
“This is a community project,” said Comrie. “the pandemic has actually brought us closer together. We needed to combine services and share resources, share our frustrations and help work together to push the government to get what we needed and to convince our communities to work together also, that is one positive thing from the pandemic.”
The garden features rows of mum’s, lavender, and a fountain located in Roy Wilkins Park, west of the running track, for more information visit http://queensvictorygardens.org/ .
