The 234th Street Block Association take pride in the beautification of their mall and are a featured contestant of The Laurelton Beautification Mall Contest. As published by Adrienne Simmons:
The mall on Francis Lewis Blvd between 234th & 233th Streets
The neighbors of the 234th Street Block Association (between Francis Lewis Blvd & 139th Ave), have shown what real teamwork is made of. Our modest beginnings have gotten several compliments throughout the summer from passing motorists and pedestrians. We are especially proud of our mall and recently installed a trellis which holds a plaque dedicating the mall to the memory of one of our neighbors, Mrs. Ernestine Chavis. She was a leader on our block and in our community for decades as her family was one of the first Africa Americans to move in the area. With each new flower bud, blade of grass, and brightly painted brick, her spirit lives on.
While this is our first year of re-establishing our garden committee, our roots run long and deep. This is why our mall should be considered one of Laurelton’s Best! #LaureltonsBestMall #LaureltonPride#OperationCleanUp
