The Center for NYC Neighborhood will host a Homeowner Help Desk at the next Federated Blocks Of Laurelton meeting on November 3, 2022 at the Evangel Temple. The Homeowner Help Desk will provide housing counseling, per se legal advise and access to resources for homeowners. The Center for NYC Neighborhoods and DIVAS for Social Justice have been working together for a year to create a multimedia based youth project that complements their initiative, The Black Homeowners Project. The Black Homeowners Project provides resources and counseling to black homeowners throughout New York City since 2018. Youth participants from DIVAS for Social Justice will launch the first part of the project in November of 2022 at the Garden Of Resilience. The 1st part of the project will feature the voices of students from the local schools: P.S 132, P.S 156 and The Linden SDA School. Students share through writings and audio recordings what makes their house a home. In addition, with the curriculum developed by DIVAS and the Center students have also learned about the path to homeownership. The goal of the multimedia aspect of this project is to encourage intergenerational wealth in communities of color by planting the seed early.
